My First Marathon.

I just completed my first marathon at the “Rock n Roll Running Series” in Nashville, Tennessee.

Here are 5 life lessons that really stuck with me after doing this🍀🦵

  1. To achieve something BIG, you have to go where 98% of people are unwilling to go. That's right: Only 2% of the world's population EVER LEAVES their comfort zone. Are you part of the 98% or the 2%?

  2. Attention to detail matters: Being my first Marathon, I did not focus enough on the small things, like nutrition. (I had a burger and fries the night before, and the hotel restaurant was unexpectedly closed for breakfast). My running satchel broke after 2 miles, so I was constantly at that, and I spilled gel all over my phone so I couldn't use it easily. Think about the small things, and they add up.

  3. Connection and Support: The support for the first 10 miles was amazing. Then, there was silence, no running buddy, no crowd, no music. Having your own backup, along with basics like podcasts and music, would be helpful. But there is NO REPLACEMENT for a running buddy. My friend Brittany rejoined me at mile 21. She saw me at my worst and got me through the last 3 miles. She was my Marathon Winner!

  4. Where the Mind Goes Energy flows: Whether your mind is on your sport, relationship, work, yourself, or your latest project, that is precisely where your energy will flow. In those last miles, all I could think about was getting over the line and seeing my two kids and husband Pierce—the most important people in my life. They prepared, packed up, and came to Nashville with me for the weekend and raced themselves!

  5. No Regrets: If there is something on your bucket list, pick a deadline for it to happen. Then, do ONE THING that will move you closer to the goal. Do it today. Book that appointment, put on the runners, make the call, send the CV, and ask for feedback to help you improve, but move forward towards your goal.

I want to give a big shout-out to the @‌runrocknroll series organizers for putting such a fantastic event together. It was a pleasure (with some pain!). Thank you.

If you want to make changes, set a goal for yourself, and don't know where to start, I will help you.

We can write the next chapter of your life together with golden ink!
