My Story with Burnout

"You've burned your mouth, but you are burnt out."

This was me on my couch in front of my fire, as miserable as I was ten years ago. I had burned my mouth badly and neglected to take care of it. I was too busy working voluntarily, outside of hours. I was in a state of chronic Burnout again.

The first time was in my sporting life, and now in my professional life. I was utterly overwhelmed, exhausted, and fragile on every level: emotionally, physically, and mentally.

Are you running yourself into the ground?

I realized that I had been running myself into the ground. I had started a new job. I was building a house; my now husband was studying in London. I had been over-committing myself in sports, work, and recreation. I had been busy helping others but didn't know how to help myself. I said ‘yes’ to everyone and everything except my own basic needs in self-care.

All the stress, anxiety, overworking, and overthinking with no time to rest, had left me completely exhausted.

The Journey of Self-Neglect

The self-neglect on my journey of Habitual Burnout was the recurring storyline that needed to change. After I had two children I realized I could no longer exist on the Hamster Wheel of Overwhelm, Self-Criticism, and Mental Exhaustion. I blamed myself for everything, trying to do it perfectly, and constantly berated myself for not doing it all, being it all, and having it all under control. Once I acknowledged that I couldn’t survive like this, I began to see a clearer picture of how my life could improve!

Change the direction of your life.

A trip around the world with my husband, a year out from work, and every strategy I could research eventually healed me. I became the Burnout Coach I am today because I have gone through it all and understand it deeply.

To this day, I consistently self-coach and self-monitor, and work on Mindset strategies that I share with my clients.

I coach using positive psychology, coaching tools, my teaching experience of 22 years, well-being facilitation, and a deep understanding of and dedication to my clients.
